Outlet & Client Research

Your Market Research section helps you in many ways, you can use it to help you find out about your users needs and desires which will then help you write you specification and finally inform your designs.

When carrying out Market Research, think about questions that you will be able to use to help you design and develop a range of products. Use the animation below to help you think about their interests and hobbies, favorite colours and the ergonomics of the product (size).

You can also use the questionnaire to help build your target user profile, think about their gender, age, ability, employment status, living environment.

You can use this information to design a product that is targeted specifically at your user. For example:

Your user could be male, 15-20, student who lives with parents. In his spare time he likes rugby and football and his favourite colour is blue as he likes Chelsea FC.

This information can be used in many ways to develop a product targeted at this user.

Make sure once you have created your questionnaire, you evaluate the results and present them in your assessment using a range of graphs and charts. It is important to create a user profile outlining who your target user is and to summarise what you have found out.

You will also need to look at the store/website where your product will be sold.

What kind of a feel do you get from the website? Is it warm and welcoming? Clinical and clean? Minimal or busy? Detailed or plain? Think about all of these questions and what feel this helps to create. How could this help when designing your product?
