SMEC Issues

You will need to research and explain the Social, Moral, Envionmental and Cultural issues associated with your product.

The best way to do this is to use the 6R's model:

Rethink: Could you rethink your design? Is there anything you could change to reduce the environmental impact? Maybe rethink the source of materials?
Refuse: Could you refuse to include certain features to reduce the impact of your product?
Reuse: Could your product be made by reusing materials/waste material?
Reduce: Could you reduce the size of your product/parts of your product to reduce the amount of material being used to create it?
Recycle: What could you do to make sure your product could be recycled at the end of its life? Can your product be disassembled?
Repair: Can you product be designed in a way that components can be repaired and replaced when broken, rather than replacing the entire product?

All of these things would result in a product that was more sustainable and reduce the environmental impact of your product if it were to go into production. As a product designer, you should be making a conscious effort to ensure that your products are sustainable.
